You’ve heard it all before ….. It’s a new world.
Our students, who are digital natives, learn differently to the way we learned. To ensure we retain our relevancy in the eyes of our students and to ensure that we ‘engage’ the students in our classes, we need to embrace this new world with its new technology. There’s no avoiding it….. we have to get on board and take up learning not only how to use Web 2.0 tools, but how to apply then in our classrooms.
I’m sure this short video will bring a smile to your face ….. It’s message is clear though …..
The first step with anything new is always the hardest!
It’s kind of like leaping into the unknown. Sometimes the fear of having a go is bigger than we need to imagine. So telling you that there are Web 2.0 tools out there that are not only simple and easy to use should, in and of itself, be enough encouragement to get you started! But I know this is not necessarily the case.
I know how you are feeling! You’re nervous. The unknown is scary. Fear of failure is high. You feel too old to learn new methods. You feel that your computer literacy skills are too low to possibly master some of this stuff.
How on earth could I know all this?! It’s simple! I’ve been where you are now. And it’s because I know how you are feeling that I am determined to convince you to ‘give it a go’!
To ensure you have the confidence to try these ten Web 2.0 tools you need to know that:
- you don’t have to download anything!
- you don’t have to supply your email address
- you don’t need to register or create an account
- and best of all – there’s no cost – each of these tools is free!
So ….. give it a go! Explore the ten tools in this Web 2.0 Toolbox. You’ll find them fun to use. And best of all, as you gain confidence, you will feel empowered to explore and experiment more.
As you flip through the slides, explore the embedded hyperlinks which will take you to the Web 2.0 tool itself. To further inspire you, I’ve also included links to classroom use ideas.
These look like fabulous ideas. I’ll share some with my grandchildren.
I can’t think of a better way for us as adults to jump into the world of Web 2.0 than to explore these tools with our grandchildren! A great idea Anna!!
Maybe you could even start up a blog with your grandchildren where you could show off’ the discoveries you make together.
By the way – if you’d like to have a picture rather than this funny blue squiggle represent you when you post comments on blogs, just go to Create your Gravatar here. You’ll be able to post either an avatar (an illustration representing you) or a real picture of yourself. I’ve been using my avatar for some time now and made it on Build your wild self. There are lots of other sites out there though to build an avatar so have fun and explore!
