There’s nothing more true than the adage that “A picture is worth a thousand words”.
Just look at what’s happening online with Instagram, Facebook and YouTube to name just a few of the many places that pictures and videos abound. Everyone, it seems, has a picture or video to share. Selfies, home photos and videos, not to mention the many other photos and videos that fit into an incredibly wide range of categories including professional, service and educational, have taken on a life of their own.

The use of visualization in education is, as we all know, invaluable. How many times have we all shared graphics with our students to teach and explain. Words, simply put, just can’t explain it as well.
So when I came across a set of pictures on the amazing website Twisted Swifter I realized that I had come across a gem.
Just take a look at this one:
What better way could one explain the incredible vastness of our country with its enormously unpopulated central area? Who could really believe that such a huge percentage of the population lives in the relatively small coastal areas as pictured here?
Many of the maps included on 40 maps that will help you make sense of the world are really impressive, interesting and educational. If you plan to use this website in your class though, you may want to be selective as not all of them are necessarily good for classroom teaching/viewing.
